The Canaan Dog is descended from wild dogs of Israel. Canaan Dogs have been used by the military to detect mines and carry messages. Drawings found in tombs in the Middle East dating back to 2200 B.C. show dogs that resemble Canaan Dogs. Canaan Dogs were first bred in the thirties by Dr. Rudolphina Menzel.
