The Canaan Dog is descended from wild dogs of Israel. Canaan Dogs can be trained as seeing eye dogs. Drawings found in tombs in the Middle East dating back to 2200 B.C. show dogs that resemble Canaan Dogs. Canaan Dogs were first bred in the thirties by Dr. Rudolphina Menzel.
